The illiterate of the 21st century will not be those who cannot read and write, but those who cannot learn, unlearn, and relearn.
-Alvin Toffler
and this is good to keep in mind the next time i feel "called" to help someone. there must be another way.
Charity is injurious unless it helps the recipient to become independent of it.

wise words...
i've basically been telling my mom for the last two years that i have to do things my own way, but she refused to understand or believe it, until she had a dream that told her i had to do things my own way, at which point she called and told me she realized i have to do things my own way. that's not a 21st century thing though. it's been that way since the fatal day when adam told cain that his rock collection was frivolous and that he should do something noble like his brother, like tend a garden.
true. history has always had run ins with the immovable mind, most of them leaving behind them a wake of massacres legitimized by whatever heavenly mandate they claim to be acting on behalf of.
but the way i take this quote, is that those who act rashly under such singular perspective will from hereon be labeled "illiterate". whereas in the past, those who were judged respectable and fit to lead were simply those educated (nevermind if their characters allowed for utter lack of integrity or logic).
but now, education, information, has, for the most part, access to a flow that is free and available to anyone who can tap into it.
so the new definition of literacy is not one who knows all, but one who can judge what is truth and what is jargon from that which he learns and is told (especially from those who deem themselves "literate" by the old definition).
basically, if you aren't open to admitting that you're wrong once in a while, you're a fool. and everybody knows it.
